\u201cThe Scottish Government is committed to making our care system the best that it can be. We are considering how best to use law and practice to make sure that more children are kept together, either physically, or through the proactive encouragement of contact.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are already provisions in the Looked After Children (Scotland) Regulations 2009 which require local authorities to assess sibling relationships and to ensure that brothers and sisters are placed together, or near to each other, where practicable; and we aim to strengthen these legal provisions.<\/p>\n

The Scottish Government\u00a0has now\u00a0published an\u00a0<\/span>analysis of the consultation responses<\/span><\/a>. The individual responses, including that\u00a0<\/span>submitted by Stand Up for Siblings<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0can be found on the\u00a0Scottish Government Consultation Hub\u00a0<\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lots of the points made by Stand Up for Siblings in our consultation response are highlighted in the Analysis, at\u00a0<\/span>section 5 on Contact<\/span><\/a>. Also, our response to question 10 of the consultation –\u00a0What do you think would strengthen the existing guidance to help a looked after child to keep in touch with other children they have shared family life with?<\/i>\u00a0– can be found in\u00a0<\/span>Appendix A<\/span><\/a>, including\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>amendments<\/span>\u00a0w<\/span>e suggested to\u00a0legislation and guidance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n
